After truely being stolen by the Russians, and recovered in court action, here is the 1/72 Akula II .

Tons of room:

First, the lifting at the bow and stern had to be corrected. After consulting with the Sith Master, I took some blue tape and marked the corrected line and built it up with CA and baking soda. Quick and dirty. It worked great.
Before and after shots.

Next, was fun. I have never cast resin parts before. Made some mistakes, learned a lot.
In this casting, I used the extra strong resin from Micro Mart. I do not think I will try that again only because of the extremely long cure time

It's great to see the progress. I can't wait to do approaches on it.

Interestingly, the Gepard is much more different than I first thought. The markings on this boat closely follow the Gepard's photographs. Many features are slightly different.

You should have seen it.
Texas courtroom. I am battling for my house, truck, and over 30,000 dollars in damages.
Judge says" An Akula?". I do not back down the least.
Of all the evil things done, swiping my submarine off the bench and putting it in a storage building across town really set me off!!!
I won back the house, the truck, and the submarine. On recovery, I had to adress some scratches on the hull.
The Albacore saddend me. I fell your pain bro. Been there, done that.
Japanese? What's with the foreign women hurting the boats as they leave??
Another point.
I often find submarine model builders have quite a few similar interests and experiances. Antoine listens to the same music I do.It is not mainstream stuff either. I had a very near encounter with a UFO in 2000. I have talked to others(more than one) who prefer to go unnamed who have also had serious encounters.
Best part is the comradery. It is common throughout the hobby.Subron 5 is a gathering of damn talented friends, and a joy to go to every time.

Wayne,

What do you think? Should I finish detailing up the patterns and put that boat into production???

Here is what I think.
Submarine building is loosely going three ways:

One: converting the plastic kits like the Type VII. Cheaper, smaller, and cool none the less. Dave Welch gets big Kudos for that.

Two: Newer kits seem to be trending larger. The Germans definately love doing the bigger hulls.
Here is the niche for the Akula. Not only is it a large son of a bitch, it had as much room inside as the typhoon hull did. ANY kind of toys can be added with ease. Also, it is an Akula II. Slightly longer and more modern.
Matt, I love the quality of your hulls. Also, you use epoxy. Yes, correctly scribed out, and redo the molds for the appendages (I think another set of appendage molds would be quicker for you in the long run). No better Akula kit would there be.Market may never be large, but we have figured that out by now.

Three: Scratch kits. Like Steve and Merrimen do.
Here is were the words Dave said ring strong. It is not a hobby. It is a craft.

I missed out. Did you get one of those Russian's over here and she went crazy?

For Paul Crozier and Wayne Frey:

You should be buying rounds for Pete Carroll. *Beautiful* call on his part...

L'enfer n'a pas de furie comparable Ã* une femme méprisée.
Ok ok english proverb. nice to know this one.

In what scale did Pete Carroll model his defensive players? They were not 1:1 -- you could tell every time they tried to tackle VY.

Matt, the only thing I will do with horns is saw them off.

Now Houston is rabid to dump Carr and pick Young in the draft. Reggie who?

01-05-2006, 01:25 PM
Paul,

Yeah, I hear you. But, I could not find it in me to root for the pricks from USC. I have to be loyal to the Big 12. I hate California sports teams. Sorry, Steve!

01-05-2006, 02:06 PM
I'm not a sports fan so it doesn't matter Matt. I'm not a fan of CA either. In fact I sometimes think the entire world sucks and how the hell did I get here?!

The one thing that keeps me sane is our hobby! I'm a fan of that.

Move to Austin.
Long list of advantages.
Disadvantages--ah, no.

01-05-2006, 02:33 PM
Steve,

you could always move up here to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.... Jobs for 3D guys like yourself.... check it out!

http://www.bioware.com/bioware_info/jobs/

only disadvantages... colder than a witches tit sometimes and landlocked!

Then again.... cold outside means more reason to be warming up next to someone... hmmm

Back in the 70's, Playboy magazine rated UT here the most sexually active in the country.
Check it out online. Beautiful here. Micheal Dell is here,Samsung, and a crowd of other high tech things. People are moving in here by the droves.
And, of course, Sub Ron 5 and I am here :)

01-05-2006, 04:36 PM
As a member of SubRon5 I have to state categorically there is no sexual incentive to join!!!

01-05-2006, 04:39 PM
Thanks guys! Dan.

But before I can move any where I have to have the job and the money to do it. So far not so good. But I'm trying. That will be on my grave stone. I tried my best!

Steve

01-05-2006, 04:55 PM
Nah, Steve, you're on the wrong side of the pond. Come over here  the weather is wonderful (for subs) :D lots of *cough* sea *cough* water and you even get to visit me. What more do you want!? :D

01-05-2006, 05:02 PM
A million dallors! After taxes that's about 500.000. That should last me two years over here just apying rent and bills.

Steve

01-05-2006, 05:06 PM
Ok how about, I finish my Akula, and you live in it. Rent is free. :D

Michael
