There's been quite a bit of TV coverage of the SSBN fleet in the Clyde this week due to ongoing "political discussions" about the rights and wrongs of replacing the V class SSBN's. I have noticed a new addition to the Vanguard. She has a rectangular raised box just up from the waterline right alongside the missiles which looks like a large conformal passive sonar set.
If I can find some photo's i'll put them up over the weekend.

Just seen this old post Dave, I'm sure you probably know by now, but these aren't sonar but a simple anti terrorist countermeasure, basicsally to stop RPG's etc when she's surfaced.

I did wonder when I first made that post because of the location of the area being right beside the warheads of the missiles. It would be a very very poor MoD day if any terrorist got close enough to fire on her with an rpg when she was on the surface but a lot cheaper to fit the armour than to take a chance I guess. Does this make the V class the first SSBN's with an armour belt like the old capital ships then lol

Wonder if "whoops pushed the wrong button" would work :P
